I’m sorry to read that. Depression is hideous. Like it sucks your soul out. I think these days that admitting to mental health difficulties is more acceptable and I’m going to do it when I need to. Rats : such a great book, hope you enjoy it.

Over the winter, I struggled with a return of depression I had not experienced in a long time. I found myself telling people in emails that “I wasn’t doing very well” for lack of a better way of communicating what was going on. Alas, I wonder what this world would be if we felt we could use clear language without shame around our struggles. Inspired by your emails and grateful for your vulnerability in sharing this because I needed to read it.

And! Rats! I live in an old farmhouse in a rural place and perhaps have more experience with rodents than I would sometimes like. Over the holidays, I went to see a performance of the Nutcracker and found myself emotional at the antics of the rats in the nighttime, as they were so familiar. Amazed by these intelligent beings and excited to read a book devoted to them! Ordering now.
